Indonesian artist Hardibudi satirizes our modern world. His work is similar to dehumanising paintings in which models are frozen in inexpressive postures. This image of a water-polo athlete equipped with an oversized pencil belongs to the Water-Polo Training Center series inspired by their daily activity during their training for the Asian Games 2018. The treatment of primary colours, the effect of repetition and flattening of the elements refers to Andy Warhol’s screen-prints and to the Pop Art movement that began in the 1950s. ...
