Explore the natural beauty of Asia through photographs captured by Pham Huy Trung, Daniel Metz, Masashi Wakui and Mathieu Ricard as they showcase their environment and express their vision.
From the start of his career as a telecommunications engineer, he dreamed of becoming a photographer. Vietnamese artist Pham Huy Trung celebrates the natural diversity of his native country from unexpected angles with the help of his drone.
Daniel Metz has developed a passion enabling him to capture the beauty of the landscapes he encounters and share his vision of them. A fan of naturalism, he seeks above all to create images as faithful as possible to the reality perceived.
This series is a testament to a traditional past that is now dying out, owing to the major upheavals and booming development that the country is experiencing.
Why photography?
I aspire to use photography as a source of hope, which restores confidence in human nature and revives our wonder at the splendours of nature.
Do you have an anecdote to share with us?
Sometimes, there are images that I seek far away. When I was 16, I saw an emblematic photo of Ansel Adams: a lake with rocks in the foreground, taken with a view camera, with great depth of field and a mountainous backdrop.
In Bhutan, forty years later, I walked for four days in the mountains to find a similar scene with a 7,000-metre high mountain in the background, and I took a photo similar to Ansel Adams’ one, as a tribute to this great photographer.
Tokyo is the main source of inspiration of the Japanese photographer Masashi Wakui, who specialises in nocturnal views of urban landscapes. His photographs in cosy colours evoke the mystical and surrealistic atmospheres of Japanese comic strips and animations, such as manga like Ghost in the Shell by Masamune Shirow and Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo, or productions by the illustrious Studio Ghibli.
