    VICTORIA HARBOR

Laurent Dequick once again moves away from the traditional representation that we have of the contemporary city in order to present a highly poetic vision that borrows from the Cubist movement. On his escapades, he captures many monuments and locations that serve as incontestable witnesses of history and of the influence of the major global metropolises. The urban freneticism and hyperactivity that he likes to represent are expressed by a condensation of shooting angles, which draw the spectator's eye. Through this interplay of superpositions, Laurent Dequick notably evokes Marcel Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase in which the expressiveness of the lines reveals the movement within the painting. This time, the photographer helps us to discover Hong Kong in all its splendour. Around street corners, lighting, noise, traffic, and swarms of pedestrians are so striking that no single shot could capture all of it. Through the prism of his lens, he manages to plunge us into the very heart of the urban agitations of the Chinese giant, whether it be the density of habitations, the interwoven chaos of its many transport systems, or the blinding brightness of the neon billboards looming above the passers-by.  ...
