Born in Champagne, Charly Macminem moved to Nancy several years ago. Upon his arrival, it was with his camera that he set out to explore the city. He is purely self-taught: his training in photography was done by “bulimic consumption of thousands of online tutorials to master techniques”. His wanderings in Nancy led hm to ask himself this haunting question: “What might it have looked like before; what was everyday life once like?” He found the answer via his encounter with a collector of old postcards of the city. He subsequently established a photography base that gave him the idea of superimposing period images onto photos of the city today, via the technique of re-photographing. This led to the Open a Window onto the Past series, some of which are available at YellowKorner. At the same time, he retrained and specialises in digital advertising for companies. Today, he combines personal projects and company contracts, notably in the creation of portraits.
