About the Artist

Alexandra JANSEN

Alexandra Jansen is a film photographer based in Sydney, Australia, known for her surreal in-camera double exposures that explore themes of nostalgic escapism. Working exclusively with 35mm film and natural light, she builds her images entirely in-camera, embracing the unpredictability and irreproducibility of each frame. Her practice emerged from a longing for freedom and simplicity, shaped during a period of isolation and illness. The analogue double exposure technique is central to her approach, allowing layered compositions in which memory, imagination, and lived experience intertwine. Each image becomes a fragile and unrepeatable moment, reflecting the transient nature of life and the shifting quality of perception. Her work reflects a broader meditation on impermanence and the desire for escape, where photography becomes a space for emotional and visual suspension. She has been shortlisted for the Royal Photographic Society International Photography Exhibition 167, and her work is held in private collections internationally. She also donates a portion of her sales to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation.
