Puna Moens

Puna Moens, whose real name is Céline Frers, was born in Buenos Aires in 1982. But she grew up in the far northeast of Argentina, on her family’s farm in Corrientes, among the gauchos, surrounded by rivers and horizons stretching as far as the eye can see. This experience, so close to the land, would leave an indelible mark on all her work. “The call of the wild and of adventure led me, almost unconsciously, to choose a career that has taken me to the heart of many wild and secret places.”
As a teenager, she bought a used camera online. She then studied cinematography at the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, before honing her skills in New York at the New York Institute of Photography. Several years of travel followed, across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia. But Argentina called her back.
Under the pseudonym Puna Moens, she has published seven books dedicated to her country, from *Colores de Corrientes* (The Colors of Corrientes) in 2009 to *Tierra Adentro* (Inner Lands) in 2020. Her images have been exhibited in Europe, the United States, and Latin America. In 2022, the City of Buenos Aires honored her as a Cultural Figure.
Today, she lives in Salta, in the northwestern Andes, where she is working on a new book about the Cordillera. “I seek out those moments when nature seems to explode, when everything takes on new meaning.”
