About the Artist

LORENZO LINTHOUT
Architecture and photography have always gone well together. Lorenzo Linthout is a perfect illustration of this. Born in 1974 in Verona, this Italian photographer is a graduate of the Architecture faculty of Ferrara and started his activity as an architect in Verona, his hometown, in 1999. That year, he also brought out the reflex camera he’d had at 16, a Praktica BCA, and started taking photos again on a personal level. After fourteen years of architecture, he made the leap in 2013 and became a professional photographer specialising in architecture, taking advantage of his experience: “My approach is first of all to interpret the design of a building and then to photograph it,” he says. During confinement in March 2020, Lorenzo Linthout had the idea of reusing his old photos of buildings and duplicating them to make new compositions akin to abstract art. His photos are now regularly published in the press and exhibited through much of Europe. In his most recent book, Vertical Building, he photographs buildings – famous or otherwise – as though they were portraits.
