Using autumn branches, bare trunks, and reflections on the water, Yva & John create photographic mandalas of a hauntingly strange beauty. The forests of Kentucky and Maryland, the trees of Colorado and New Mexico… this familiar landscape folds along an axis of perfect symmetry, transforming into something else: a plant cathedral, a natural stained-glass window, a form that nature alone could never have conceived. What was once merely a river or a branch becomes a horizon, architecture, a vision. It is as if the forest were leaning over a mirror and discovering itself there for the first time.
