Born in 1982 in the small Spanish city of El Puerto de Santa Maria, the artist Cristina Burns invites us to observe the world through the prism of a humorous and whimsical lens. The juxtaposition of opposing elements, such as sweets, toys, and flowers with anatomical parts and insects, enables her to create surrealist assemblages that recall the European cabinet of curiosities of the 17th century and museums of anthropological oddities. Enjoying international renown, Cristina Burns has shown her work in the United States, Europe, Israel, and Japan. In April 2015, the magazine Vogue Italy presented her photographs at the Leica Gallery in Milan. Other shots from the Through the Mirror series were also selected to feature in the anthology Anatomy Rocks alongside works by 60 other contemporary artists, including the illustrious Damien Hirst.
